CNN, earlier Tuesday, filed a lawsuit against the White House to restore access for their correspondent, Jim Acosta
. And the senior judicial analyst for one of their chief rivals thinks they have a strong case.
Appearing on Varney & Co.
, Judge Andrew Napolitano
stated his belief that CNN is on solid legal ground, and that Jim Acosta will soon be back inside the gates at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
“Obviously Acosta may have been an irritant to the president, but he was hardly a danger to him,” Napolitano said. “So I think CNN’s got a very good case. I think this will be resolved quickly. I don’t expect a jury trial. I think it will either be settled or CNN will prevail on motion.”
According to Napolitano, there are grounds for barring a reporter from the White House. But Acosta didn’t come close to breaking the rules that would’ve merited his ouster.
“Believe it or not – Acosta would be entitled to a hearing and they would have to show which rule that he violated and the only rule that has anything to do with what he did is, was he a danger to the president or the president’s family?” Napolitano said. “Obviously not.”
