Apparently Democrats believe the path to the presidency calls for denouncing the symbols used to celebrate the Nation’s founding as racist. Democrat presidential candidates Julian Castro and Robert ‘Beto’ O’Rourke have both spoken out in support of Nike’s decision to ban sales of it’s Betsy Ross flag adorned athletic shoes this week just days before the Fourth of July following a complaint by the America-hating former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Castro spoke to CBS News, comparing the Betsy Ross flag to the Confederate flag:

Democratic presidential candidate Julián Castro praised Nike’s decision to pull shoes with the 13-star American flag in an interview with CBSN, saying he was “glad to see that.”

“I was glad to see that. And my hope is that they didn’t just do it to do it. They understand the significance there. And look, there are a lot of things in our history that are still very painful,” Castro said. “The Confederate Flag that still flies in some places, and is used as a symbol. And I believe we need to move towards an inclusive America that understands that pain.

O’Rourke spoke to reporters Wednesday, “I think its really important to take into account the impression that kind of symbol would have for many of our fellow Americans, respect the decision Nike made and grateful for the conversation [that it is provoking]”

As noted by TGP and others, the Betsy Ross flag was flown high and proud at President Obama’s second inaugural in 2013.
