DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz is preparing to release a separate report on former FBI Director James Comey’s conduct, according to investigative reporter Byron York.

The report on Comey will be separate from the “FISA abuse” report Horowitz should be releasing any time between mid-September to early October.

Via Byron York of the Washington Examiner:

The Justice Department inspector general is preparing to release a report on the conduct of fired FBI Director James Comey in the Trump-Russia investigation, according to a number of sources with knowledge of the situation. The specific timing of the report’s release is not clear.

The Comey report is separate from a larger inspector general report on the DOJ’s handling of the Trump-Russia probe. That report, sometimes referred to by Republicans as an investigation into “FISA abuse,” is expected to be released later.

It is not clear why the inspector general, Michael Horowitz, chose to write a separate report on Comey.

The Justice Department recently declined to prosecute James Comey over his handling of several ‘Trump memos’ he wrote memorializing 9 conversations he had with the President.

Comey’s memos, which began in early January of 2017 and concluded in April of 2017 just one month before Comey was fired as FBI Director, contained classified information.

Comey admitted during a congressional hearing that he gave portions of his memos to his friend-turned-lawyer-turned-unpaid-FBI-official Daniel Richman to leak to the New York Times in order to prompt a special counsel investigation into president Trump.

Robert Mueller was appointed special counsel just one day after the New York Times published its anti-Trump report based on Comey’s memos leaked to the paper.

Conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch announced last month it obtained 6 pages of records from the FBI showing that one month after FBI Director James Comey was fired by Trump, FBI agents visited Comey’s home to retrieve four ‘Trump memos’ as “evidence.”

The agents showed up to Comey’s home to collect the evidence in June and one of his memos was written on June 6, nearly a full month after he was fired on May 9.

The memos retrieved by FBI agents on June 7, 2017 were dated February 14, 2017; March 30, 2017; April 11, 2017; and one is dated “last night at 6:30 pm.”

The FBI docs also revealed that Comey recalled to agents that he wrote two other memos after he spoke with Trump that he claimed were “missing.”

According to Comey, one of the ‘missing’ memos was emailed to Rybicki and McCabe.

Byron York reported that according to sources, the Comey report will address Comey’s memos and not his broader role in Spygate.
