Lawrence David| Opinion| One is forced to ponder if the crime described below was the result of a deranged man having watched more than a hundred nights of violence, against society and the police, glorified as “peaceful protests” in support of a just cause…

(Live 5 WCSC) A man accused of stabbing the Bonneau police chief in the face with an ice pick is in custody after a standoff with Berkeley County deputies.

Forrest Bowman was arrested shortly after 12:30 p.m. The SWAT team was seen bringing Bowman, who was naked and screaming, out of his trailer.

The incident happened just before 10 a.m. on West Church Street off Highway 52.

Berkeley County investigators said after stabbing Chief Franco Fuda under his left eye,

Bowman ran to his mobile home and refused to come out. According to Fuda, Bowman told him that he was “going to die today.”

According to the report, the Berkeley County SWAT team attempted to get Bowman to surrender several times. When he failed to do so, deputies sent a robot into the suspect’s trailer to get a look inside the home to determine what they might be dealing with.

Once the SWAT team had assessed the situation they made entry into the home and brought him out, naked and screaming but, without incident.

Authorities said they found Bowman hiding between a mattress and a wall.

What makes this incident sadly unnecessary is the fact that, according to court records, Bowman has been out on bond on charges stemming from an incident two years ago when he threatened Police Chief Fuda.

Bowman’s problems weren’t limited to his dislike of Chief Fuda… Police said Bowman was previously arrested for threatening the pastor of a nearby church as well as the attending police officers.

Police Chief Fuda is expected to fully recover.
