Jack Dorcey Concedes the Way Twitter Blocked the NY Post Article About Joe and Hunter Biden Was ‘Unacceptable’
Twitter came down on White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany for tweeting the explosive New York Post story on Hunter Biden on her personal account.
The Trump campaign tweeted out a screenshot of an email McEnany received from Twitter, letting her know that her account “has been locked.”
“We have determined that this account violated the Twitter Rules. Specifically, for: Violating our rules against distribution of hacked material,” the email read.
McEnany’s tweet that was used to lock her account by the tech giant read, “**NEW** Email from Ukrainian executive to Hunter Biden asks Hunter to ‘use his influence’ on behalf of the firm paying him $50K/mo in email with subject ‘urgent issue’ obtained by @nypost Father @JoeBiden was in charge of Ukraine relations at time.!!”
“Twitter has locked the personal account of White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany for sharing news Democrats don’t like,” the Trump War Room tweeted on Wednesday night.
This is unconscionable. Twitter has effectively decided to rig the presidential election. I want to know if this is an in-kind contribution for former vice president Joe Biden and if so, will Twitter be held accountable? Just imagine that this is what the United States of America has become. A social media company is censoring real information that voters have a right to know about a man running for president to lied through his teeth about his own corruption and the corruption of his son. If this were Donald Trump Jr, it would be all over the news media, and Twitter would never censor it.
McEnany fired back at Twitter from her official White House account.
“Censorship should be condemned! cc: @Twitter & Facebook NOT the American way!!” McEnany tweeted from her @PressSec handle.”
Twitter additionally locked a number of other accounts including The New York Post in addition to others who shared the article including NewsBusters managing editor Curtis Houck. The social media company just decided immediately to kill the story because it’s bad news for Joe Biden and the Democrats. It’s unreal that this is happening in our country.
Twitter recently shadowbanned me. This censorship on social media is unamerican. To hide behind the fact that the tech giants are private corporations, therefore they’re not violating people’s Free Speech or officially censoring is a load of bullschtein. It’s so bad I created my own social media site where we do not censor anyone for their political speech.
Well, SURPRISE! Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said it was “unacceptable” that the tech giant blocked users from sharing a Post report about Hunter Biden’s emails without providing a clear message as to why it was taking the action.
Dorsey released his statement in a tweet Wednesday night just hours after numerous high-profile Republicans, including Senator Josh Hawley, blasted the social media company for blocking the stories from being shared on the platform. Remember, a platform is not supposed to block free speech they don’t agree with. That’s the job of a publisher. Social media companies get a way with liability damages by claiming to be a platform, but when you act like a publisher, you might get our status as a platform taken away from you.
“Our communication around our actions on the @nypost article was not great. And blocking URL sharing via tweet or DM with zero context as to why we’re blocking: unacceptable,” Dorsey tweeted.
As of this writing the Post’s main Twitter account is still inactive, since it was shut down Wednesday afternoon.
Social media giant Facebook also stated it would restrict the article from being posted, pending a review by independent fact checkers, who all just happened to be leftists who support Joe Biden, so there’s no guessing as to how that will end up.
Incensed by the move, Senator Hawley sent letters to both social media companies, demanding answers as to why the platforms “censored” the Biden stories.
“@Twitter @jack this is not nearly good enough. In fact, it’s a joke. It’s downright insulting. I will ask you – and @Facebook– to give an explanation UNDER OATH to the Senate subcommittee I chair. These are potential violations of election law, and that’s a crime,” he wrote in a tweet.
