Glenn Greenwald Resigns From The Intercept After Editors Reportedly Refused To Publish Article Critical Of Joe Biden

Glenn Greenwald has resigned from the news outlet that he co-founded because they refused to publish an article he had written unless he removed everything in the article that was a criticism of Joe Biden. It should be noted that Greenwald’s writing contract prevents the editing of his articles without his permission.

The Intercept is in breach of contract and if our guys at the Federal Election Commission would wake up. they could charge that the Intercept was making an in-kind contribution to the Biden campaign. But, it would exceed the legal limit and thereby could be sanctioned and a heavy fine could ensue.

To top things off for the Intercept is that their number one draw is the Pulitzer Prize winner Greenwald. Without him, their ratings will drop, especially if he catches on somewhere else quickly. His readers will follow him.

On top of that, Greenwald could sue for breach of contract and unless there is a clause in the founding documents, he could sell his share to someone the paper would absolutely hate. Say the Gateway Pundit or The Daily Caller or even some rich Republican businessman. But, even if he must sell out to his partners they would be buying damaged goods without Greenwald.

Greenwald said:

“Today I sent my intention to resign from The Intercept, the news outlet I co-founded in 2013 with Jeremy Scahill and Laura Poitras, as well as from its parent company First Look Media.”

“The final, precipitating cause is that The Intercept’s editors, in violation of my contractual right of editorial freedom, censored an article I wrote this week, refusing to publish it unless I remove all sections critical of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, the candidate vehemently supported by all New-York-based Intercept editors involved in this effort at suppression.”

Glenn Greenwald@ggreenwald·My Resignation From The Intercept The same trends of repression, censorship and ideological homogeneity plaguing the national press generally have engulfed the media outlet I co-founded, culminating in censorship of my own articles.

Not only did the editors not publish the article but they also demanded he not publish it on any other site, which also conflicts with his contract as he explains:

“The censored article, based on recently revealed emails and witness testimony, raised critical questions about Biden’s conduct. Not content to simply prevent publication of this article at the media outlet I co-founded, these Intercept editors also demanded that I refrain from exercising a separate contractual right to publish this article with any other publication.”

It should be fun seeing how all of this plays out. But my money is on Greenwald. He is a liberal but he has journalistic integrity. He is a fighter who knows how to win. Even if it buries the site he co-founded.
