Opinion| Well, it looks like the ball is going to be in Mitch McConnell’s court once again after the Democrat controlled House moved to pass a measure to increase the’Covid relif’ payments from the measly $600 (less than a single months rent for any person or family I know) to $2000.

Personally, I would rather the government stop strangling small businesses with their ‘lockdowns’ and draconian restrictions on the American people.  I would prefer to see American citizens have the right to make their own choices as to where they want to go, with whom, and what precautions they should take.  But, hey, maybe I am just an old fuddy duddy.

Cocaine Mitch has stood in Trump’s way on his mission to increase the amount of money Americans borrow from their children and reduce the amount of funds being sent to special interests and over seas.

Newsmax is reporting, Via Reuters:

‘The Democratic-led U.S. House of Representatives voted 275-134 to meet President Donald Trump’s demand for $2,000 COVID-19 relief checks on Monday, sending the measure on to an uncertain future in the Republican-controlled Senate.

Trump last week threatened to block a massive pandemic aid and spending package if Congress did not boost stimulus payments from $600 to $2,000 and cut other spending. He backed down from his demands on Sunday as a possible government shutdown brought on by the fight with lawmakers loomed.

But Democratic lawmakers have long wanted $2,000 relief checks and used the rare point of agreement with Trump to advance the proposal – or at least put Republicans on record against it – in the vote on Monday.’

It will be interesting to see what the Republican controlled Senate chooses to do.  Taking a step back, it is also ironic that Republican voters are looking to see the federal government redistribute even more money.  When one considers how much money is being spent and NOT going to aid for the American people, but rather to ‘other’ causes, it becomes easy to wonder why there are hundreds of billions, or even trillions in pork over the last few bills and so little for citizens.

Call me crazy but this whole thing feels like another run on the Treasury, just like the ‘banker bailout’ a decade or so ago.  Sometimes I think about where we were as a nation last year at this time and wonder … how did we get here.
