Trump’s GOP is Populist and Here to Stay: Vernon Jones Joins Officially Joins Republican Party
Georgia State Representative Vernon Jones announced at the “Save America” rally in DC on Wednesday, saying he wanted to “come home” to the party of Lincoln, Federick Douglas, and South Carolina US Senator Tim Scott.
The move is going to cement further the populist movement’s staying power in American politics.
“I want to come home now,” Jones said. “I am joining the Republican party. Now more than ever, the Republican Party is in desperate need of leaders that know how to fight,” he said. “I know how to fight.”

Jones became an unlikely supporter of President Donald J. Trump because he was a Democrat office holder in Georgia when he began posting his support of the President on Social Media well before the final votes were cast in the 2020 Presidential election.
Jones became a popular supporter around the country, especially in his home state of Georgia, where Democrats have taken a bold control over the voters there. Jones spoke at numerous rallies on Trump’s behalf, highlighting the fact that Trump’s base is made up of Democrats and independents and Republicans in what is becoming understood as a Populist movement, and that is not always popular with the current GOP.
The Washington Examiner reported on the announcement:
” Jones, a Democrat who made waves for his support of President Trump, announced he is switching political parties.
“Moments ago, I announced that I am officially joining the Republican Party,” he wrote in a tweet on Wednesday, a day after his state held two runoff contests on the verge of giving Democrats control of the U.S. Senate.
Jones argued that his decision was motivated to fill a power vacuum left behind by the current GOP leadership.
“Now more than ever, the Republican Party is in desperate need of leaders that know how to fight,” he added. “I know how to fight.”
Jones’s announcement comes as the Republican Party is grappling with several electoral setbacks.
Trump, the first Republican presidential contender to lose Jones’s home state of Georgia in decades, continues to advocate for unlikely congressional maneuvers to overturn the outcome of the 2020 election that resulted in a victory for President-elect Joe Biden. Dozens of Republican members of both the House and the Senate have revealed their intent to object to the official certification of Biden’s win when it is presented before Congress on Wednesday.”
One poster on Twitter pointed out that the rise of the Conservative Populist is going to have caused a rift in GOP politics for decades. It is important to understand that the movement isn’t new; however, under Trump, it is a movement that is finally very powerful.
Every populist movement peaks with an internal party revolt.
The Republican civil war is coming.

Yes, there is an internal battle going on in the GOP, and many people are noting that with Trump and his associates and his support from the American people, it is here to stay.
