Biden Feels The Heat From Progressives As Trump Plans To Court Striking Auto Workers

Biden is facing pressure from progressive Democrats as former President Donald Trump is openly courting traditionally Democratic union workers as part of his 2024 campaign strategy.

The United Auto Workers union, representing 146,000 auto workers throughout the country, has been on strike since Friday as they demand higher wages, the restoration of benefits lost during the 2008 financial crisis, and protections for workers being ousted by Biden’s green energy initiatives.

Trump has already committed to visiting Michigan as soon as next week to meet with striking workers.

Meanwhile, progressives are already criticizing Biden for a ‘tepid’ response to the strikes, according to The Hill.

“The political winds forced him that way,” a top confidant to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said about Biden’s response to the striking auto workers.

“They put the muscle out there now so they can’t really hedge as much. He hedged early on,” He further said.

Republicans, including Trump, have been generally supportive of the UAW strike and blasted Biden’s green energy mandates as a leading cause.

Scrutiny on Biden will only continue to grow as his administration waffled on a decision to send a team to Detroit to support UAW workers, and Biden has not committed to visiting the site of a strike.

“He could have done a lot more for the Teamsters when they were fighting. And don’t even get me started on the rail workers,” the Sanders source said. “This is a moment whose time has come. There were other workers who made lots of sacrifices and movement people for this very profound in-your-face, we’re not going to take it anymore, the economy has failed for working-class people, moment.”

A spokesperson for Biden’s 2024 Presidential campaign attacked Trump ahead of his visit to Michigan.

“Donald Trump is going to Michigan next week to lie to Michigan workers and pretend he didn’t spend his entire failed presidency selling them out at every turn,” Ammar Moussa, a spokesperson for the Biden campaign, said.
